Apparently the government are considering holding a state funeral for the last First World War veteran when he dies. Who thinks this is a nice idea?
What, congratulations you lived the longest so when you're dead you can have a state funeral? I don't think it's appropriate. The many should be remembered and celebrated not just one because he lived longest.
I agree with Loulou a bit of a bash now while they are alive is more appropriate. However I think the dignity of a state funeral for THE last one has something going for it too.
Cherry, it wouldn't be necessarily that he lived longest, just that he died last. Depends how old he was when he joined up.

Yes I understand that. But lots of others who were just as brave died who were not given the same treatment. I think a way of remembering and celebrating the many is more approriate than a state funeral for just one, even if he is the last one.

I think Bounty's right. The state funeral would be celebrating the many. It would be symbolic.
I think Bounty's right.
Of course you do, I wouldn't expect otherwise!
A bit rich coming from a blue Swedish gnome.
I think you'll find the Smurfs are Beligian. Also if you look in the random pic thread on Adults, you'll see i'm neither blue or a gnome, just as you're not a giant lump of coconut covered in chocolate. Or are you?
I am not currently covered in chocolate
