Title: Vinyl
Post by: smurfboy on February 11, 2006, 12:02:50 am
Do you miss it? I know CDs are better quality and more convenient, but I think there was something special about records. Going to buy a new single was the highlight of my Saturday as a child.

I agree Smurfy and some people still prefer the sound.  What was the first single everyone bought?  Mine was Blackberry Way by The Move.

I loved records and their sleeves but CD's are easier to store.

I love records - especially the sleeves and they do sound better - if you look after them! The first 'pop' record I bought was Seven Seas of Rye by Queen.

You must have been very young.

I checked my collection today and it wasn't actually the Queen Record at all. The oldest single in my collection was Maggie May by Rod Stewart.

A colleague of mine adores Donny Osmond and sees him in concert as often as possible. Donny is at least 45 years old and STILL singing Puppy Love!!

I've seen Donny on a few things lately and think he comes across as a nice guy. He seems not to take himself too seriously, works hard and loves his family... oh and I think he's fit too.

I thought, and still think, that The show must go on by Leo was and is a fantastic song. I didn't like all his hits but I did buy the album Endless Flight.

I never brought a record but the first CD I brought was Lion King, The Circle of Life featuring Elton John. I was about 9. I brought it in Our Price in Lewisham shopping centre.

Was that the one where he dressed as a clown?  If so, I vaguely remember it.

And the skankhole one in Walsall Choccy! It's like a bygone era in there! Apparently it is finally being done up this year.

Cherry - Chelsea Girl and Concept Man were what became River Island.

In Mere Green (Salsa and maybe GC will know where that is!) the Boots 'Dispensing Chemist' has an ancient blue sign with white lettering. Boots has changed its logo at least twice since then!

I think they thought they'd spend the money on a better store. This Boots is genuinely just a chemist, no extras at all.

Places like that always have 'green' in the placename. There are several in Plymouth I can think of!
