Title: Lyrics question
Post by: on November 21, 2005, 08:53:42 am

Is Norah Jones singing 'I don't know why I didn't come' or 'I don't know why I didn't cum'?  If it's the former, when do we ever actualy use this expression? Wouldn't we say, 'I don't know why I didn't go'?  This would sound equally good in the song.  Or did she not orgasm?

Genuinely confused

The word is come.

She may have penned a reply to 'Come Away with Me' or she is regretting
not going away with a loved one or she my have been let down/stood up
by a loved one

Hmmm, i think it is ok to say "I dont know why i didnt come" - especially if i were talking to you about a specific event that you attended. Or maybe "I don't know why i didn't come to your party" or similar...

OK thanks.  I guessed as much seeing how Frankie goes to Hollywood got banned for talking about orgasms.  But I still would say go instead of come, but then I like to be correct.

Its a shame when you can't always get what you want or would like isn't it BH?

Depending on context, it may be correct to say either "go" or "come"

That was a typo not a spelling mistake.  There's a difference.

I don't know the song or the woman so I cannot comment but I agree with Lemoneye. It would be perfectly OK to say "I don't know why I didn't come" for instance, in reply to the question "why didn't you attend the meeting last night?". The act of leaving out the implied to the meeting after I don't know why I didn't come is called an elipses.

Never heard of it. However, I remember Gary Glitter singing:

Do you wanna touch, do you wanna touch,

Do you wanna touch me there? Where? There, yea!

And we all know what kind of **it he's in now!

Sounds painful! But it's what he deserves. I read in the paper
yesterday that he is paying the children about £5 everytime they sleep
with him
