Title: Alcohol
Post by: loulou on August 28, 2005, 04:41:35 pm
In the bar at lunchtime there seemed to be a lot of 18-25 yr olds drinking alcopops. It got me thinking. I can never remember going to a bar on a Sunday lunchtime when i was that age , possibly because i would have had a hangover or tired from clubbing on the Sat night. But it just wasn't done in them days. Sunday lunchtimes the bars would only have men in. And then i was wondering what year the alcopops came along because we didn't have much choice back in the early eighties. It was lager or cider and I remember getting all excited round about 1982 when Taboo and Mirage came along and I would feel all sophisticated being only 16/17 , a underage drinker and having a Mirage and lemonade.lol

I remember going to parties when I was 17 clutching a bottle of Pomagne or a Party Seven. If we drank cider or Pomagne or weak beer we thought we were daring. At 18, the height of sophistication was a glass of Martini or Cinzano and lemonade!

I have a bottle of Malibu pineapple that I got as a gift so I opened it the other night, poured some, nearly blew my head off then I read on the label you're supposed to mix it with lemonade.

I have mixed it with coke and it
tastes nice. This is what I was drinking on my 21st. Also tastes nice
with orange juice or pineapple juice.

Double vodkas and diet coke for me, but mainly because it's quite cheap at my student union. If I'm not trying to get drunk, I like Malibu and cranberry - yum

Thanks Minty, I've never heard of Sheppy's but I'll
keep an eye out for it. I don't like honey but I'll give it a
try if I can find it.

Sheppy's is a particular cider farm in Taunton. You can go there and see cider being made. Also if you want you can take an empty bottle and get it filled with cider! When I was there the locals were filling up old plastic milk bottles (the 4 or 6 pint kind) with cider!! You can also do cider tasting there...

Mudshakes are nice. They are vodka based with a milkshake flavour. Strawberry, banana, caramel etc.

They cost upwards of £2 in pubs but are 98p a bottle in Asda

The green one is nice. I forget what flavour it is.

The raspberry j20 is nice, it's limited edition. I know there is no alcohol in them, but nice all the same.

I didn't know that was limited?  I drink those all the time when I go to the pub quiz as I have to drive.

I don't think I've had that one.  I've had a peach one though I think?  That was the one that I left for a minute and my husband thought it was a glass of water and threw it down the sink!

How much was left in the glass?

I am not too keen on the peach one myself. The Fushion and Exotic ones are nice

It was almost full and nicely chilled.  I just went to make a phone call, came back and it was gone!  I was not very impressed.
